The manufactory of Hereke, sixty kilometers from Istanbul of the Gulf of Izmit, was founded in 1844. Its present building was put up at the order of Sultan Abdul Hamid for the Ottoman manufactory. is known as a high-end commercial workshop still producing expensive silk and wool carpets with designs drawn from the Persian and Indian court style of the 16th century.
