Het is vanzelfsprekend dat de Amsterdamse School een vooraanstaande rol gespeeld heeft bij het ontstaan van de nieuwe tendensen van de textielwereld in Nederland net voor de Eerste Wereldoorlog.
Nauw verbonden met de natuur verwijzen de ontwerpen vaak naar een gestileerde plantenwereld, en ondanks de duidelijke verwantschap met de andere Europese strekking, blijft het Hollands concept zeer herkenbaar.
Handgeknoopt in de ateliers van de KVT (Koninklijke Vereenigde Tapijtfabrieken Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Deventer, Moordrecht). De KVT startte in 1797 om de hoge werkloosheid tegen te gaan en draaide uit op een groot succes. In 1978 staakte de KVT al haar activiteiten.
