ClassiCon is ontstaan uit de traditionele Vereinigte Werkstätten in München. Licenties voor ontwerpen van beroemde ontwerpers van het klassieke modernisme, waaronder Eileen Gray, Eckart Muthesius en Otto Blümel, vormden de grondslag van de collectie van vandaag. Alle ClassiCon tapijten worden in nauwe samenwerking met het label STEP vervaardigd in ambachtelijke dorpen in de Sarlahi regio van Nepal. Het label STEP is een non-profit organisatie die zorgt voor eerlijke werk- en leefomstandigheden voor mensen in productieruimtes en alleen milieuvriendelijke tapijtproductieprocessen toestaat.

Eileen Gray is geboren in Ierland. Daarna ging ze schetsen en de techniek van oosterse lak studeren in Londen en Parijs. Daar stelde ze haar eerste werken reeds in 1913 tentoon. Omringd door de leden van de 'Union des Artistes modernes' Pierre Chareau en René Herbst, werd haar werk opgemerkt door de architecten Walter Gropius, Le Corbusier en Mallet-Stevens.
